Fast Freddie's
During my final semester at NSCC, my class was introduced to fictional barber shop brand located in Dartmouth called Fast Freddie’s. It was a small but successful business with history, run by 2 brothers. They like to keep things simple, with 2 chairs in the shop and a mindset of efficiency and calm professionalism.
The goal was to make the barber shop feel real by creating a logo, pomade packaging, and a few mockups. After researching and saving barber shop logos that gave a vintage, friendly feel, I decided to focus on the word fast while making my logo. It turns out that falcons are the fastest animal in the world, plus they're reliable and loyal. I decided to make a simplistic falcon as the logo for Freddie's, and posed it mid flight with scissors as if it was bringing them to the brothers.
It was fun playing with a masculine, male-centred brand. The pomade was fun to make. I immediately thought of an outdoor scene with a cool scroll and gothic writing to showcase the product. I gave their social media presence on instagram a cheeky, blunt tone, the way I thought that the imaginary brothers would like to represent the brand's personality. I imagined the target audience would appreciate Freddie's poking a little fun at traditional salons with too much fanciness.
